Let's be honest, thinking of doing anything with a newborn can be overwhelming! I remember vividly how any new excursion or experience with my newborn could be nerve wracking- especially when I didn't know what to expect. Whether you are a parent, or a newborn photographer looking for some tips and tricks- you are in the right place. Keep scrolling to learn some of the tips I have learned in my years of experience as a newborn photographer.

  • Have no other appointments/obligations that day and schedule session for the morning.
  • Try keeping baby awake about an hour before session (but don't stress if you can't)
  • I typically arrive right on time or a few minutes early for these sessions to check out your home for the best light and rearrange a few things if needed. This is a great time to give babe a bottle or nurse to keep them happy!

  • Have your noise machine, and pacifier (if using) on hand. If you are having a studio session I will have my noise machine and heater to help keep baby comfortable and soothed.
  • Remember you can dress up for your session, or keep it very true to life and casual. The choice is yours- go with you gut (no matter how tired you feel)
  • Do not forget about siblings! Make sure they are fed and try to stay calm with them. Kids sense when we are stressed. Remember the most important thing is documenting this moment in your life- not getting the "perfect picture" (whatever that means...). If you are having a studio session plan on having someone bring the siblings at the end so we keep the environment peaceful for baby.

They truly grow so fast (I know, I know its a cliche), and you will be so happy that you documented this special time with professional quality photographs. There is no better way to remember your family's history than to have it recorded visually.
